A Fiduciary You Can Trust: Dan Gould, Fee-Only Advisor in Overland Park

I'm Dan Gould, an independent, fee-only financial advisor based in Overland Park, Kansas, serving individuals, families, professionals, and small business owners nationwide. I specialize in dividend growth investing and risk management, bringing proven portfolio management and retirement income strategies to every client relationship. My disciplined approach, once reserved for large institutions, is now focused on helping you build a reliable, growing income while actively managing risk. Just as important, as a fiduciary, I am legally and ethically obligated to act solely in your best interest — no commissions, no sales quotas, no products to push.

In fact, I founded this practice on that principle after growing up in a small, blue-collar Michigan town and witnessing firsthand how rare truly unbiased financial advice can be. Today, my clients work directly with me—not a call center or a rotating team—supported by institutional-grade custody through Charles Schwab and compliance services from CreativeOne Wealth.

Why We Do What We Do

I’m from a small blue-collar town, so I understand the value of a dollar. Because of this background, my early interest in financial markets stemmed from wanting to help my community live better lives. Back then, most options meant selling products at banks or brokerages, focusing mainly on company profits rather than clients’ interests. However, that wasn’t the path I chose.

Fortunately, there is now a structure that allows me to operate independently as a fiduciary, helping clients in the way that's most suitable for them. In this new environment, as a fiduciary, I am legally required to act in my clients' best interests, avoid conflicts of interest, and provide unbiased guidance. Furthermore, with no sales quotas or asset requirements, I can choose the families I work with—exactly how I want to operate.

HOW WE GIVE BACK

  • We Offer Educational Events For Retirement Planning, Medicare, And Tax Strategies for small private groups and corporate events.
  • We Support Local Youth & High School Athletics.
  • We Offer Free Advice For residents of Three Rivers, Michigan!

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Yes. I am registered as an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) under the Investment Advisors Act Of 1940. Under this federal requirement, if you’re acting in an investment adviser representative (IAR) capacity, you’re a fiduciary. As a fiduciary, I am legally obligated to put my client's interests ahead of mine and act in my client's best interests at all times. This means that I must provide advice that is suitable for my client's needs and risk tolerance and must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

A: You can search for registrations at the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure Website: https://adviserinfo.sec.gov/ (My CRD#: 2131294)

A: The Fee-Only compensation method is considered the most transparent and objective method for financial advice. This compensation model helps to minimize conflicts of interest and guarantees that your financial advisor acts as your fiduciary, putting your interests first. Fee-only advisors are paid only by their clients for advice, plan implementation, and the ongoing management of assets.

A: Yes. I’ve chosen Charles Schwab to be the custodian for all my clients. The first thing to remember is your securities—like stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, or money market funds—held at Schwab are yours. The SEC's Customer Protection Rule safeguards customer assets at brokerage firms by preventing firms from using customer assets to finance their own proprietary businesses. I can also rest easy at night knowing that Schwab holds itself to the highest security standards when it comes to safeguarding my client’s assets. You can learn more about how your assets are protected by Charles Schwab at https://www.schwab.com/legal/account-protection.

A: We take nothing for granted. We have the independence of a boutique financial firm, but we’re backed by the power of CreativeOne Wealth, LLC, a revolutionary asset management platform and Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm. CreativeOne provides back-office support, ensures compliance, and continuously monitors privacy protection. You can learn more at https://adviser.creativeonewealth.com/tech.

A: First, RIAs are legally obligated to act in your best interest. They also tend to provide more personalized services. Since they aren't paid on commission, they don't have an incentive simply to deal with only when selling something. RIAs typically have transparent fee structures, often charging a percentage of assets under management or a flat fee, which aligns their interests with yours.

Many investors are unaware of, or confused about, the various fees they may pay when investing. Not my clients! We believe in Fiduciary transparency. Our fee schedule is 0.50% to 0.95% of assets under management annually. We can also negotiate a flat fee for outside investment advice. Our minimum account size is $500,000 of investable assets. However, our services are also available to active accumulators under 45 with a minimum of only $300,000.
